COD Zombies

Just so you know, a newer version of the app has come out recently but I am not reviewing it because I don’t have the funds to buy it :) . Anyway, COD zombies is a game where you have to kill zombies which come in waves, as the waves increase, said zombies become faster, more resistant to your bullets, as well as increasingly numerous. Continuing how the game works, when you kill a zombie, you will earn a certain amounts of points, with these points, you can do one of two (depending on the map three things). First, you can buy a better gun either from a designated area or a random box. Secondly, you can unblock a new area of the map, and finally, (only applicable to some maps) you can buy sodas which improve your character. During the game, you might get a floating glowing item, these items resemble what they give you. For example, a 2x will double you score and and ammo box will max out your ammo. You can also obtain a nuclear bomb which will kill all the semi-living zombies on the map.  The game has two modes, singleplayer and multiplayer. Singleplayer explains its self. In mltiplayer, you can choose to play locally over wi-fi/bluetooth or over the internet. I usually have trouble playing non-locally, the game just keeps on loading,  however this is probably just a problem with my internet. This is a nice game, the graphics are nice and you have a large number of guns to try out. The game keeps you hooked with the increasing difficulty. This is probably one of the best apps ever in the sense that you virtually never get bored. Although the game is repetitive, you never seem to be playing the same game and the need to better your previous level keeps you playing. A small inconvenience comes with the price previously $9.99 now $4.99 (since the new game has come out), however, I think that this is a fair price for the entertainment it provides you.

FIFA 12

App logoFIFA 12 as most people know is a football (soccer) game made by EA. The game is just like a real soccer game, all you have to do is put the ball in the back of the net. Much like the Xbox version of this game, the first thing that surprises you when you open the app is the graphics. EA sports definitely makes the best looking sport games on the app store and maybe even on Xbox/PS3. For some of you who might know FIFA 11, a couple of things have been added on. First of all, the squads have been updated, EA has added the new manager mode (I will explain later on), and there is also a daily challenge, but most importantly, the controls have been changes around making it hard for people who were playing FIFA 11 before to adapt. The pass and shoot buttons have been switched and instead of a through ball button, EA has made a sprint button. By doing this, you have to press the pass button and swipe up to hit a through ball. You can also have players make runs by swiping them in the direction you want them to run. The game is definitely better and feels closer to a gaming system than the previous edition, but the big downside is that it is very expensive $9.99 unless EA is running a sale, in that case; the price drops to $0.99 or maybe other prices (depending on the sale). One thing that I regret EA not doing, is adding an online multiplayer mode.

ESPN Scorecenter

App logo

Continuing the freebie reviews, ESPN’s scorecenter app is one that cannot be missed by people who have an iPhone/iPod and like sports. Scorecenter, as the name says, gives you the live scores of many sports, from American-football all the way through water polo. Including different divisions for each sport as well as different leagues (for people who do not follow sports, this might be a little hard to understand). The app is also complete with its own unique sound when a goal/touchdown/etc.  is scored in a match you are following. These alerts are customizable giving you the option of an alert  when the game starts and ends, when a point is scored, discipline (red/yellow cards), substitutions, and statistics. The alerts can be disabled for certain teams by the simple touch of a button. What I like about this app is that for each league, you have news updates as well as the league table reducing your need to explore the internet to check out your team’s position or your team’s latest news. ESPN also provides a short preview (and recap) of the game including interviews with players and how the teams go into this game. As I mentioned before the commentaries are live(ish) meaning that if your team scores at 10:21, you will most likely get the update at around 10:24 (no kidding). Again, this app is free so you don’t really have anything to lose.

Google Translate

App logoFor iPhone/iPod users looking for a good freebie, google translate is the app to download. This app has a pretty simple concept, type in a word choose a target language and in a matter of milliseconds, you will have your word in the target language. And, by pressing the reverse button, you can change from French-English to english-French. Google translate holds a total of 64 languages from Afrikaans all the way to Yiddish. On iDevice with a built in microphone, you can speak a word and with surprising accuracy, your word will magically pop up on the screen. The app also keeps tabs on all the words you have translated so if you don’t remember what you just typed in, the app will. You can change the voice input language so that the app will recognize you accent (this only applies for English, Chinese, and Spanish) allowing you to translate with the least frustration possible. The only downside I can think of is that it will not accurately translate whole sentences like many other translation softwares. Anyways, this is a free app so you won’t waste any money by downloading it. I will post the link to the app store so that you can read the reviews for this app.
